Pac-12 Scholar-Athletes of the Year

STANFORD graduate student Maya Harvey was named the 2023-24 Beach Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year on Thursday. The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

Harvey, a Hermosa Beach native, is a co-terming student-athlete at Stanford. She is set to graduate cum laude in June with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a 3.67 GPA, while working towards a Master’s degree in Computer Science with an outstanding 4.17 GPA. Over the years, her academic prowess has earned her a spot on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll three times (‘21, ‘22, ‘23).

In her four years on the court, Harvey has reached 81 wins, making her the fourth all-time winningest player in Stanford history. The graduate has solidified herself as a Carindal great, holding a top-10 spot in individual and pair single-season wins and individual and pair career wins. Her 20 wins with fellow Cardinal, Maddi Kriz, earns them the 6th most career pair wins in program history (20) with the same duo ranking seventh for single-season wins (16 - 2021). In the 2022 season her 24 wins placed her fourth in Cardinal program history. Throughout the course of her time as a Cardinal she has seen victories against 24 ranked-opponents, has helped her team to three NCAA Championship Tournament appearances and three back-to-back 20+ win seasons.

Outside of the beach, Harvey is an accomplished computer science professional, taking on a Web Development Internship at UBS Wealth Management and working on market research and prototyping for her tech lifestyle startup GoodYard Sports while assisting in Stanford computer science classes as she works to finish her Masters.

Harvey is Stanford’s first ever Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Cardinal continues to hold the most Scholar Athlete of the Year awards amongst all of the sponsored sports (119).

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletics accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in voting for the award.

A Scholar-Athlete of the Year is named annually in each of the Pac-12’s 24 sponsored sports: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, beach volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s gymnastics, women’s lacrosse, men’s rowing, women’s rowing, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s track & field, women’s track & field, women’s volleyball, and wrestling.
