Pac-12 Tournament Kicks Off for Lacrosse with Rematch Against Ducks

Apr 29, 2024

LOS ANGELES– Four-seeded Arizona State lacrosse (8-9, 3-4) opens the Pac-12 tournament by facing off against the five-seeded Oregon Ducks (8-6, 2-5) on Wednesday, May 1 at the LA Memorial Coliseum. The game is slated to start at 4:30 p.m. MST and will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.

The two teams have faced off 10 times in program history, with ASU holding the 6-4 edge. The most recent loss to the Ducks came just two weeks ago in Eugene when Oregon took down ASU 20-12. The Ducks took the opening draw and scored seconds into the game and were all gas from the jump.

Sun Devil Outlook:
Last week, the Sun Devils defeated UC Davis 21-11 in dominant fashion behind senior attacker Mina Scott's career-high six goals. In the win, Scott was one of four Sun Devils to tally a hat trick, including: sophomore attackers Lydia Oldknow and Teagan Ng and junior attacker Anna Thornton. The trio also combined for six assists out of the 10 total assists, which was a single-game high this season.

ASU's 21 goals on Saturday tied the season high for most goals scored this year. The Sun Devils put 21 on the board in their season-opening win against Xavier on February 9, 2024. The team's 49 shots against the Aggies were also a season high. The previous high, 48, came against Xavier.

With three goals against the Aggies, Lydia Oldknow has scored in every game for the Sun Devils this season. It was also the sophomore's ninth hat trick of the year, which leads the team.

Scouting the Opponent:
Oregon has compiled an 8-6 record with first-year head coach Jessica Drummond this season. The Ducks lost their regular-season finale to Colorado 20-8, but beat UC Davis earlier this season, earning them the five seed in the Pac-12 Tournament, and pushing UC Davis to six. Neither Oregon nor ASU has played at a neutral site location this season.

Sun Devil Notables:

  • Attackers Mina Scott and Lydia Oldknow are tied for the team lead with 42 goals apiece.
  • The Sun Devils have surpassed their 2023 win total (6) after reaching their eighth win on Senior Day against UC Davis on Saturday.
  • In the last four games, junior attacker Anna Thornton has had three assists in three of them. In the last four games she's tallied 10 assists.
  • Defender Gigi Gaspar scored her fourth goal of the season in the third quarter. All four of her scores have come in the last five games.
  • Mina Scott's eight points (6G-2A) against UC Davis are the most by a Sun Devil in a game this season. Prior to today, Thornton and Oldknow each had one seven-point game.
