INDIANAPOLIS – The UCLA women's tennis team was picked as the No. 8 seed in the upcoming NCAA Divison I Tennis Championship, the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee announced Monday. As one of the tournament's top 16 seeds, UCLA will host first- and second-round matches at Los Angeles Tennis Center on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.

With its selection, UCLA is one of two schools (Stanford) to reach the NCAA Championships each year since the tournament format was instituted in 1982.

Pac-12 Conference regular-season champion UCLA (18-5, 9-1 Pac-12) will take on San Diego State (16-6, 7-2 Mountain West), which won the Mountain West Conference tournament championships as the No. 2 seed, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. PT. UCLA holds a 26-7 advantage in the programs' all-time series. The Bruins prevailed 4-0 in a 2006 NCAA Championships first-round contest at Pepperdine.

Friday's first match will feature Texas Tech (19-8, 10-3 Big 12) of the Big 12 and Summit League champion Denver (17-6, 6-0 Summit). The Lady Raiders and Pioneers are set for a 10 a.m. start. The regional final will be played Saturday at 12 p.m.

Thirty-one conference champions earned the tournament's automatic bids. Thirty-three others rounded out the 64-team field as at-large selections. Winners of each first- and second-round regional will move on to the super-regional sites. As one of the field's top eight seeds, UCLA is also in line to host a Round of 16 match. The final eight teams will come together in Stillwater, Okla. to compete for the national championship from May 17-19. The Greenwood Tennis Center will host the final three rounds.

All matches will be regulation dual matches, consisting of three doubles matches and six singles matches. The first team to collect two doubles victories shall be declared the winner. Likewise, the match will be stopped when the first team reaches the necessary four points to clinch the overall win.
