Ryan Wins International Event

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada – Stanford junior Jack Ryan won the 3-meter competition at the Canada Cup of Diving on Saturday, his final event until the U.S. Olympic Trials in late June.

Ryan scored 428.05 points in the six-dive final to outdistance runner-up Yukang Hu of China, who scored 413.85. 

The double Pac-12 champion and three-time first-team All-American was second after two dives and third after three. However, in the fourth round, Ryan executed a Reverse 3 ½ Somersault Tuck for 80.5 points. 

The dive, with a 3.5 level of difficulty, thrust Ryan into first place for good. Ryan finished off with his best score, 82.25 points, on a Reverse 1 ½ Somersault 3 ½ Twists in the sixth round. 

The result was a reversal from the prelims, when Ryan placed 10th with 338.70. Ryan took chances with dives of 3.9 and 3.8 degrees of difficulty in the fifth and sixth rounds. Ryan wasn't able to execute them especially well, but wasn't afraid to experiment and put tuck those into his arsenal for later use. 

At the Olympic Trials, Ryan will compete in the 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized events. His synchro partner will be Grayson Campbell, who competed in the 3-meter springboard at the 2024 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Ryan competed in the 1-meter at that event. 

Men's diving in the Olympic Trials will take place from June 20-23 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
