After her first season as an Oregon State Beaver, Sophia Esposito has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Esposito spent her opening season excelling in the gym, successfully executing 39 out of 42 total routines, giving her an NQS that ranks 11th in the Conference in the all-around (39.355). After the conclusion of the Pac-12 Championships, she leads the conference’s freshmen on vault with an NQS that is among the top-33 nationally (9.895) after scoring a 9.85 or higher nine times. On beam and floor, Esposito ranks second among conference freshmen with her floor ranking sitting just inside the Conference’s top-20 (9.900) thanks to five different 9.9’s or higher including a career-high 9.95. In each of the last seven meets, including the Pac-12 Championships, Esposito has competed in the all-around, scoring a career-high 39.525 against UCLA and tying for fifth at the Pac-12 Championships. This season she has earned six event titles and three Freshman/Newcomer of the Week awards.
