Tossed a "Maddux" (CG shutout, 9.0 IP with less than 100 pitches) in Utah's series-opening win at Arizona State, a 10-0 victory that saw Van Sickle allow just 3 hits, walk nobody and strike out 8 en route to an 82-pitch performance (61 strikes) Threw the only CG in the Pac-12 this weekend and the 4th in the conference this season First complete game by a Utah pitcher since 2022 and the first CG shutout since 2016 First "Maddux" in the Pac-12 since 2018: Washington State's Scotty Sunitsch at Oregon (4/8/18) and Washington's Joe DeMers vs UC Riverside (2/24/18) which were both no-hitters Utah’s Bryson Van Sickle named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, presented by Rawlings. Did not allow the leadoff batter to reach base in all 9 innings, and did not allow an ASU runner into scoring position. His 82 pitchers to 29 batters faced (2 over the minimum) put ASU batters at an average of just 2.82 pitches per plate appearance. Threw first-pitch strikes (including first pitch put in play) 20 times. Retired 14 straight Sun Devils to end the game. First Utah pitcher to win this award since Matthew Sox in 2022 (April 25). First time since joining the Pac-12 has Utah won the conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards in the same week. 3rd time this season and 2nd straight week that 1 school has swept both awards. Oregon State swept both of the previous times this season (Feb. 26, April 8)
