Buffs Add 2023 MVC Freshman of the Year

BOULDER — The 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Jade Masogayo will join the Colorado women's basketball team for the 2024-25 season, the team announced on Thursday.
 
Masogayo spent her first two seasons at Missouri State, averaging 8.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 64 games. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
 
"We have always loved Jade's game and believe that her athleticism and skillset can really translate at this level," head coach JR Payne commented. We will definitely love to have Jade's length on the court and know that she can impact both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. I believe Jade will have a great impact on our team and our Boulder community!"
 
The Fort Worth, Texas, native took the MVC by storm in her first season. She played in all 32 games for the Bears, earning three starts. She averaged 8.0 points and 5.4 rebounds, leading MSU with a 52.6 field goal percentage. Masogayo blocked the eighth most shots in a single season for the Bears, closing her freshman season with 44. She concluded the 2022-23 season as the only DI freshman to average at least 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game. Masogayo led MSU in steals nine times and scoring twice, in addition to scoring in double figures 11 times.
 
The 6-3 forward started all 32 games for the Bears last season, closing with a career-high 8.4 points per game. Masogayo scored a career-high 21 points at Valparaiso, finishing the season with 11 games in double-figures. She finished the season hitting 50.0% from the field (111-222) with 4.5 rebounds per game. Masogayo shot 50% or better in 22 games last season, including a perfect 6-for-6 day at Northern Iowa.
 
In two years, she scored 527 points and snagged 316 rebounds. Masogayo has three double-doubles and 72 career blocks.
